The Photographer's Guide to NYC Cherry Blossoms
Timing, trackers, and the best hidden groves across the five boroughs for 2026.
Cherry blossoms in NYC are extremely time-sensitive—each tree peaks for ~5–7 days, and the full city window is only a few weeks. Treat this like a moving target, not a static season.

Photographer Timing Strategy
1. Build a Route: Don't stick to one spot. Start early in the season at Pilgrim Hill or downtown, move to Central Park and Roosevelt Island for peak, and finish at BBG for late-blooming varieties.
2. Weather is Everything: Wind and rain can cause a "petal drop" overnight. Check trackers daily, not weekly.
3. The Sunrise Rule: For clean backgrounds and soft light, arrive at sunrise. It's the only way to avoid the massive crowds at the most popular groves.
